THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Materials Management Supervisor, the Porter/Store Person plays an essential role in ensuring GBGH remains a well-organized, compliant and efficient environment for patients, staff and visitors. By becoming a member of this dynamic team, you will work together to ensure that all goods delivered to the hospital are appropriately received, stored, and routed. As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for receiving, verifying, ordering, counting, delivering, and replenishing all supplies for central stores and the stockless program (JIT). You will also be responsible for accurate computer entry, inventory management, PAR analysis, and updates.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive all goods and verify their contents according to the 3-Way Match (3WM) system: packing slips/shipping labels, purchase orders, and physical items
  • Check all incoming goods for any expired and/or damaged products
  • Ensure that time sensitive and refrigerated items are processed first
  • Report package discrepancies/damages and notify vendors as required
  • Maintain optimal supply levels for stockless medical supply program using Just-In-Time (JIT) methods
  • Adhere to the periodic automated replenishment (PAR) system
  • Deliver goods to various departments across the hospital
  • Organize storage areas and rotate stock on a first-in/first-out (FIFO) basis
  • Manage Stores areas to reflect established standards, layout, and cleanliness
  • Ensure that physical inventory is accurately reflected in the materials management system (Meditech)
  • Conduct physical inventory counts as required
  • Replenish the oxygen cylinders throughout the facility
  • Transfer pandemic supplies to and from the offsite locations as required
  • Respond to inquiries in a professional, courteous, and timely manner
  • Adhere to infection control practices, policies, and procedures
  • Comply with health and safety requirements
  • Notify your supervisor of discrepancies, issues, and report any relevant information that relates to Stores activities

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will possess the following key competencies:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of six (6) months experience in a similar role
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting would be preferred
  • Ability to perform accurate inventory counts
  • Ability to understand and comply with store keeping and inventory procedures and methods
  • Must be able to handle a high level of physical activity including bending, lifting, pulling, and extended periods of walking and standing
  • Must be able to work effectively as a team member
  • Excellent accuracy, attention to detail, and customer service focused
  • Ability to exercise initiative and good judgment; ability to multi-task; self-motivated; able to work independently and effectively in a team
  • Proficiency in using computerized technology is essential for this role to track and manage inventory efficiently
  • Coursework and training in Inventory Control, Logistics or Supply Chain Management an asset
  • Inventory and supply (stock keeping) experience an asset
  • Experience with Shipping and Receiving an asset
  • Familiarity with Meditech Materials Management Module, and proficiency with computers and/or data entry an asset
  • Ability to adapt to change in a fast-paced working environment
  • Demonstrated consistent punctuality and attendance record, maintaining a high level of reliability and commitment to performing duties with efficiency and effectiveness in previous roles

  • As a partially designated French speaking organization, French verbal and written communication skills are considered an asset in this position

COMPENSATION

  • Annual salary range $26.30-26.84, plus additional 14% in lieu of benefits and 4% in lieu of vacation to start

HOURS OF WORK
Permanent Part Time. Shifts include days, evenings, nights, and weekends and holidays. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements and as per the SEIU collective agreement
