Description

The Kinesiologist (Kin), following the scope of practice as set by the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario (CKO), will provide assessment of human movement and performance and its rehabilitation and management to maintain, rehabilitate or enhance movement and performance, and will have no controlled acts within their scope of practice.

The position is responsible for the assessment, treatment, education and management of patients in the provision of rehabilitation services to the clients of the Lake of the Woods District Hospital (LWDH). The Kinesiologist will work both independently and collaboratively with all members of the interdisciplinary health care team and under the guidance of the Physiotherapists and Occupational therapists, to support and enhance the services of the rehabilitation department and to ensure the provision of safe, wholistic and patient centered care to clients.

The position will have a particular focus on providing class-based interventions, including but not limited to cardiac and pulmonary rehab, GLA:D and total joint replacement classes, both independently and in conjunction with a Physiotherapist (PT).

Qualifications

  • Must be a member in good standing with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario
  • Must be a graduate of a certified post-secondary degree program in Kinesiology
  • Previous experience of at least one year working in physical medicine preferred
  • Specific additional training in cardiac rehabilitation, exercise physiology, nutrition, participant counseling, GLA:D or BoneFit certification or other related health care activities considered an asset
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Current certification in BCLS and demonstrated ongoing competence through annual re-certification
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computers and Windows-based software programs/keyboarding skills
  • Independent clinical problem-solving skills, ability to organize and prioritize work within time constraints, and demonstrated sound judgment, and initiative
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively perform physical therapeutic assessments and analyses, and to coordinate implementation of prioritized kinesiology interventions utilizing available supports including family, staff and students
  • Physically capable of frequent bending, stretching, and lifting and of assisting heavy-needs patients with bed mobility, transfers, ambulation, and exercise program. Must be able to stand and walk the majority of the day
  • Must demonstrate a tactful, empathetic, and caring patient approach, and encourage independence
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize duties/projects, multi-task, and work independently in a fast-paced environment with constant demands
  • Reliable attendance record
